We just finished our dig in history for our archeology unit, we cleaned artifacts and made an meuseam, for the meuseam I chose an artifact made out of clay that I thought was a writing pallet. We also had a test on vocabulary words that had to do with archeology, and on the back of the test we had some questions on our dig and archeology.
Ancient Mesopotamia: The Sumerians
Ancient Sumer was located in modern day Iraq, Between the Euphrates River and the Tigris River which both empty in to the Persian Gulf. for the Sumerians the land was fertilized only on they had floods. The Euphrates River was very shallow because it had a lot of dirt on the bottom, because of this, when The Sumerians had floods, the dirt sank to the ground and fertilized the farm. The Sumerians could not tell when the floods would come or how big they would be, so they created irrigation systems to control the water, so the farmers could use it when they wanted.
Ancient Egypt
we have studied Ancient Egypt, To end this history unit, we did a project. I choose a subject, and egyptian queens Hatshepsut, Nefertiti, and Cleopatra VI. The first part of this project was to write and essay on the subject, the second part was to do a project, I did a dierama.
My Project
Ancient China
We studied ancient Chinese dynastys such as the Qin in this unit, we also learned about silk, trade (the silk road) we also learned about chinese inventions etc. As a final assessment for this unit, we did an ABC evaluation were we found a fact about ancient China for each of the 26 letters of the alphabet
Ancient Greece
Ancient Greece is our final unit in 5th grade. in this unit we studied the Minoans from Crete, these people were the first greeks. then we learned briefly how they got destroyed then who came after them. We learned about greek myths and the gods. we learned about the trojan war and the Odyssey ect. this unit was probley my favorite.
Final reflection in History for 5th grade
I loved history in fifth grade, it was one of my favorite subjects. It's especially interesting to learn how life was way back when in all different places there are some similarites between the different cultures, and some differences. For example ancient chinese people used oracle bones to communicate with the gods, greeks sacraficed. I personally think the greeks were most creative with their myths by comparing them to other civilizations. this may be true, but probably because I've heard the most greek myths then any other civilization. I will miss studying history in he lower school!
